Gain a Brighter and Whiter Smile
Whether you like your coffee in the morning and your red wine at night, or if time has simply taken the sparkle from your teeth, nobody likes to have stained or discolored teeth. They can make you want to hide your smile, and that’s a crime. But thanks to our teeth whitening services at Marshall Dental, your smile can be as bright as your outlook.
What is teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that restores the natural color of your teeth. Generally, teeth discoloration occurs as a person ages due to changes in the enamel’s structure. However, there are certain foods, medications, and habits that can hasten the process of tooth discoloration. Smoking and certain medications like tetracycline stain the teeth, as do beverages such as coffee, tea, and red wine.
How does teeth whitening work?
Hydrogen peroxide has the ability to penetrate the tooth enamel, which is somewhat porous. When it does so, the peroxide breaks down the stain. Hydrogen peroxide can also break down stains on the teeth’s dentin layer (the layer beneath the enamel). We create custom bleaching trays for every patient, so you get the perfect fit, while still being able to do the whitening procedure at home.
What can I expect from a teeth whitening procedure?
Our take-home whitening kits are affordable and more effective than over-the-counter kits. During your initial whitening appointment with us, we will use a shade template to identify the extent of whitening you need. This will also serve as a benchmark to determine the effectiveness of the treatment afterwards. We will then take impressions of your teeth in order to fabricate custom bleaching trays for you. On your second visit, the trays will be adjusted to ensure that they fit properly. You will also be given detailed instructions on how to use your customized trays. When home, you will put the whitening gel into the trays and wear them for 30 minutes to one hour every day for a period of one to two weeks.
What should I keep in mind while using my bleaching trays?
Before placing your customized trays into your mouth, you will need to brush and floss your teeth first. Also, it is important to avoid smoking, eating, or drinking while using the trays and for about 30 minutes after taking them off.
